YEAR 9 OPTIONS

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Over the following months, your son/daughter will be selecting the courses that they wish to continue to study throughout Key Stage 4. During this time, they will receive information and guidance from their progress tutor, their teachers and hopefully from you. Students and parents can also discuss options linked to specific careers with our careers advisor at the parental information evenings on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st February. We have allocated a parental evening for you to attend (based on teaching bands) but if this day is inconvenient, please attend on the alternative evening.

Information about all of the Key Stage 4 courses is in the options booklet that is available on the academy website (paper copies can be provided on request). I would advise all students and parents to read through this information over the coming weeks. Choosing the correct combination of subject options is an important step and reading through the course outlines will assist in this respect.

The options process is outlined below:

  • Wednesday 7th February 2024Year 9 assembly to outline the option process to students.
  • Tuesday 20th February 4-5pm (A band) / Wednesday 21st February 4-5pm (B band) Parental information evenings to outline the options process and support available in decision making.
  • Friday 8th March – Key Stage 4 taster day. Students select potential subjects to have a trial lesson in.
  • Monday 11th March – Students will be given their options sheet to complete.
  • Monday 18th March – Year 9 – Options consultation afternoon 4.30-6.00pm. Students and parents can book an appointment with a senior member of staff if they wish to discuss their option choices further. To book an appointment, please email [email protected]
  • Friday 22nd March 2024Deadline for submitting option choices.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate in contacting Mr Tyrie (Assistant Principal Key Stage 4), Mr Jenks (Assistant Principal Key Stage 3) or me, here at the academy.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs C Davies
