Worldwide CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi Visits Forge

Students at Ormiston Forge Academy talked resilience, positive energy and learning from mistakes with one of the leading businessmen in the world.

Over 200 students and staff at Ormiston Forge Academy, in Cradley Heath, enjoyed their visit from Robert Senior, Worldwide CEO of Saatchi and Saatchi. During the visit, he discussed views on leadership, the process of planning and not making plans and the importance of listening. He also provided A level students with an insight into his business world and answered lots of questions.

Mr Senior visited as part of the Speakers for Schools initiative which is celebrating its fifth anniversary by launching its ‘Bridging the Gap’ talk series. The series brings together 35 leading figures in public life from diverse backgrounds to deliver individual talks in state schools and colleges throughout the country. The campaign talks will reach an estimated 4,500 students, with the objective of broadening their horizons by allowing them to hear directly from key figures currently shaping the UK.

Speakers for Schools is the national education charity dedicated to inspiring and empowering state school students to reach their full potential.

Principal at Ormiston Forge Academy, Andrew Burns said: “It’s fantastic that a speaker of Robert’s calibre has joined us today. His vast knowledge, experience and ability to connect with our students has made this a vital moment in many young lives.

We are incredibly grateful that he has given up his time to visit us and we applaud the efforts of Speakers For Schools who realise the importance of bridging the gap. If we don’t share insights, advice and experiences from a wide range of networks and organisations then we are failing to provide a holistic education. Speakers For Schools and people like Robert are breaking barriers down.

Mr Senior is a guest lecturer at the London Business School and the London School of Economics and is on the ATP Business Advisory Board. He has been responsible for some of the most memorable advertising campaigns of the last few years including Gorilla for Cadburys which was voted the nation’s favourite TV advert of all time by Marketing magazine in 2015. He followed his talks with question and answer sessions with students.

Mr Senior commented: “It was an absolute pleasure to visit Ormiston Forge Academy. I was struck and inspired by the energy and openness of both staff and pupils.

Robert Peston, Political Editor, ITV and Founder, Speakers for Schools, said: “Today’s generation of state school pupils are as talented as ever. If you have spoken to them, you know there isn’t any lack of ability, but many lack the confidence and connections to help them reach their potential. At Speakers for Schools we are determined to help as many young people as possible achieve their ambitions and their dreams, by helping them tap into the networks that more privileged students take for granted.
