Share, Like and Comment

I’ve been mindful recently of the power of social media. Developing and communicating with a group of people is a powerful thing. The Facebook page for Ormiston Forge Academy nears 2,000 Likes and what a buzzing community it is. I regularly read the comments and watch what the students are getting up to. I also notice that we have parents, local business people and former students, as well as current students and staff amongst the 2,000. What else would bring all of these people together? When my last blog was published it was read by over 3,000 people. You. You may be reading it now. You may be number 3,001. Thank you. It’s wonderful that you care so much to Like, Share, Comment or simply read the latest happenings of a Sandwell Principal.

Having a strong audience provides us with great opportunity. It strengthens our local links and ensures the academy remains robust and healthy. I’m sure that prospective staff read this blog and visit our Facebook whilst they, ‘check us out’. It’s important they see us as we are: open, honest and ambitious. I want to attract the best people to come and work at the Forge. Likewise I want students to aspire to be a part of the Forge family; as well as being the best that they can be.

All this happens by creating an audience and listening to them. It’s quite the privilege to write. Speaking of which I must congratulate the students on their mock exam results. They’ve done a great job and it bodes extremely well for the Summer. Every year, students all over the UK get a hard time by politicians and the media telling them how much easier it is nowadays to get the grades they need. It isn’t. I really wish these people could see our young people now, studying hard, revising and preparing themselves for a very tough season of exams. Staff and students should be applauded for their resilience and determination to succeed.

I look forward to writing in the Summer with good news. I never tire of telling you how proud I am to be Principal of Ormiston Forge Academy.
