British Values

We are committed to serving our community. We recognise the multi-cultural, multi-faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom. We also understand the vital role we play in ensuring that groups or individuals within our school community are not subjected to discrimination, intimidation or radicalisation by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them.

We accept admissions from all those entitled to an education under British law, including students of all faiths or none. We follow a rigorous diversity and equality scheme, which seeks to eradicate discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality, disability, political or financial status, or similar. We aim to serve all of our community.

The Government emphasises that schools are required to ensure that key ‘British Values’ are taught in all UK schools. The government set out its definition of British values in the ‘Prevent Strategy’ – values of:

Through our curriculum, our behaviour system and provision of the Personal Development programme we:

• encourage students to develop their own opinions, self-awareness, self esteem and self-confidence whilst respecting the views of others.
• actively encourage students to distinguish right from wrong and to respect
the law of Britain, enabling them to understand the importance of individual
choice and responsibility.
• teach students to recognise how they can contribute positively to their local
and wider community whilst providing opportunities for them to do this
through social action projects.
• actively encourage students to acquire a broad general knowledge of and
respect for public institutions and services in Britain, practically
demonstrating democratic processes through our student leadership
programme.
• support and model tolerance between and the understanding of different
cultural traditions and beliefs by regularly celebrating the cultural diversity
within the academy.
