Ofsted Good – letter from Principal, Andrew Burns

Dear Parents/Guardians

Ormiston Forge Academy is an Ofsted Good school

It is with enormous pleasure that I write to share the fantastic news that our Academy has been graded Good. This is based on the findings of the full Section 5 inspection carried out by a team of HMI and Ofsted inspectors on 22nd and 23rd March 2016. All five key areas of inspection have been judged as Good:

Effectiveness of leadership and management – Good
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment – Good
Personal development, behaviour and welfare – Good
Outcomes for pupils – Good
Sixth Form – Good

We have self assessed as Good for a while now, and having Ofsted confirmation of this is a very good feeling indeed. This Ofsted framework, that we were judged under, is also the version with the highest expectations to date.

It is, without doubt, the letter that I’ve dreamed for four years about writing to you all. The driver was always that our children and community deserve a Good school. We have high expectations of all our students to work hard, play hard and look smart. We provide a school environment that inspires students to become confident individuals and independent learners, our students and parents have a sense of pride in belonging to Forge and our sponsor, the Ormiston Academies Trust.

This wonderful achievement reflects all the hard work and dedication of so many people. This has been a real team effort, from the students, the staff, governors and our sponsor, combined with your incredible support.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you as parents and carers for your continued support since my appointment and your unwavering belief in our drive to improve standards for our young people. However, most importantly of all, I am so proud of my students, who are focused, resilient and positive and proved to the inspection team that we do not put a show on, we are Good all day, every day.

A full copy of the inspection report will be made accessible to all stakeholders through the Academy website. However, I would like to share a quote from the report which encapsulates the findings, which is that the inspectors saw that, “the school has improved rapidly and securely in recent years”.

Let’s get this news out into our community, Ormiston Forge Academy is officially a Good school. Next step: Outstanding! I know how close we are to this and we are already committed to this.

Yours faithfully

Andrew Burns
Principal
