Jewson Forges In To Help

Students at Ormiston Forge Academy in Cradley Heath are benefiting from a new allotment, thanks to the time and expertise supplied by local builders merchant, Jewson in Rowley Regis.

The secondary school and sixth form has Academy status with an inspiring motto, ‘Learn today for a better tomorrow’. So when Paul Murray, Jewson’s sales manager, was asked to get involved in the school’s first ever Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) scheme at the school he was keen to help in any way possible.

The Jewson branch at Rowley Regis donated the materials to help the school build its own allotment. The team supplied flagstones for the base of a new shed, sleepers from which raised flower beds have been created, as well as topsoil and sand for the new planting areas.

Paul Murray, Sales Manager for Jewson said: “We are delighted that we could get involved with this initiative at Forge Academy. Upon visiting the school, we identified ways in which the local branch could help out and thought that building an allotment in the school’s grounds would provide a positive focus for less advantaged students and create a great place for them to learn and play.”

Maria Mincher, Vice Principal at Ormiston Forge Academy said: “We are very grateful for the support we’ve received from Jewson. Paul’s interest in the creation of an allotment is a great example of how local businesses can lend not just their products and services, but importantly their time and expertise to community projects.”
