GCSE Results 2013

When GCSE results were released today Ormiston Forge Academy were pleased to have been able to sustain the progress made last year by ensuring 95% of all candidates received at least 5 GCSEs at grades A to G.

The pass rate from A to G was the same as 2012 but the pass rate from A to C increased by 2% to 91%. While some headline rates dipped there was great improvement from the science department who have rocketed from 44% in 2012 to 68% this year – a huge 24% increase. There have also been some stand-out performance from students: 132 got 10 or more A* to C GCSE grades and these students eclipsed even those incredible performances:

  • Ellie Beighton – 17 GCSEs
  • Kirsty Johnson – 17 GCSEs
  • Angel Ifeoluwa Akinpelu – 16 GCSEs
  • Omar-Shah Bashir – 16 GCSEs
  • Jessica Newman – 15 GCSEs (including 3 A* and 2 A grades)
  • Simran Aujla – 15 GCSEs (including 5 A grades)

When asked if he was happy with these results Principal Andrew Burns said, “Whilst I am delighted for the students who have done well I will never be happy until we achieve 100% pass rates. Anything less than this means failure, my staff and I won’t let that happen and we are dedicated to improvement and achievement.

“Whilst the debate on grade boundaries rages on all that concerns me are my students and their ability to fulfil their potential. If there is anything to be worried about, it is the pressure that young people are now under in school from the age of 14 onwards.”
